The drug is used in treating erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE) by improving blood flow in the penis.
The new study,, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that sildenafil, a drug approved by the FDA in 1998, was effective in improving erections in some of the patients. The new study, which involved nearly 1,000 men, was conducted on 23 patients who were taking sildenafil and were taking drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.
In this study, sildenafil was significantly better than other drugs used for ED, such as Viagra, Cialis and other popular ED drugs.
The drug was administered to the patients who were taking sildenafil and took the drug every day. The average dosage of sildenafil was 2.5 milligrams, which is about a quarter of the maximum daily dose of sildenafil.
However, the study showed that the drug was more effective than other ED drugs in treating premature ejaculation.
The researchers also noted that men who took the drug for several months were less likely to have PE than those who were not taking the drug.
